Hey babes! First of all, don’t worry, OOTD photos are coming soon lol. Today let me talk to you about one of the most classic and universally flattering silhouettes out there: the fit and flare.

You can find both fit and flare dresses and skirts (and I might even add some coats). How can you tell? Well, as the name suggests it, the silhouette is basically fitted through the waist and flaring out at or below the hips.

This style was extremely popular in the 50’s and even today is part of the wardrobe of any pin up girl or simply women who love retro or vintage pieces. It gives you movement as you walk, it’s über feminine, it has a timeless beauty and yes, universally flattering. Why do I say that? Because it will give any woman an instant illusion of an hour-glass shape given that it accentuates the waist and has lots of volume at the flared bottom.

There are super trendy stores and brand that still sell modernized versions of this style. Take for example Dresslily*, where you can find authentic pin up silhouettes with cherry prints or gingham, as well as a modern day version of this vintage style (ignore the oxymoron haha).

These are some examples of vintage-inspired dresses that have a strong retro pin up influence yet they can be totally wearable today.
