So, with La La La proposals to Emma Stone and now Kylie Jenner hitting prom with a dateless boy in Sacramento, we got it: it’s Prom season. Gold dresses have become super-trendy for prom. Whether you choose an all-in-one sexy gold number, or something that just has hints of this trendy hue in your shoes and makeup, you just cannot go wrong with gold.
How to Look Like a Million Bucks for Prom
If you can’t attend prom with a celebrity, then dress like one! You want to look like a superstar for prom and the quickest and easiest way to do that is to wear gold. Since gold is a metallic colour, it also complements a wide range of skin tones and is incredibly easy to accessorise.
With a wide range of gold prom dresses available, shining at prom has never been easier. Even a simple jersey gown covered from head to toe in gold sequins can make you look as though you have been dipped in 18 carat luxury! There is also the option of buttery yellow chiffon that has golden rhinestones to reflect the light, or long gowns with lace overlays for a purely romantic indulgence.
Gold makes way for plenty of styles. You can play around with embellishments such as gold lace applique that will help you to look slimmer in the waist, or pick a gown that is straight and long with dazzling rhinestones along the neckline that is sure to make you look like a Greek goddess.
The best thing about gold dresses is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks.
Accessorizing Your Gold Dress
Shoes can be tricky, but black or nude colours are safe to wear with a gold dress. If you’re feeling bold, you could pull off a pair of golden shoes. It is a risky move depending on the style of your dress, but it can, and does work well. Stilettos and peep-toe styles work well with long-patterned dresses but you should avoid gold pumps altogether. If you opt for a knee-length cocktail gold dress, you may just be able to pull off deep maroon or crimson red pumps, but then keep your makeup natural and use a nude or black clutch.
If you’re wearing a gold dress, your bag should really be invisible. Banish the big bags and instead pick an elegant, small clutch in black or nude. Small handbags that have chain straps also work, so long as they don’t clash with your dress. If you really have your heart set on something that will stand out, go for maroon, brown, or red and keep the shoes black or nude.
If you’re wearing a gold gown, keep your makeup neutral and natural. In fact, just a light eye makeup and a good concealer will do the trick. You could also apply a very thin line of mascara and eyeliner in black. If you’d prefer a movie star look, pick a scarlet red lip colour, or even deep plum, and tone down your other accessories. Keep nails painted a classic red or even just natural.
