Fashion and film have always been related. If we think of iconic movies, there’s often an equally iconic fashion moment such as Marilyn Monroe’s white dress in “The Seven Year Itch”, Audrey Hepburn’s LBD in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” or Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestley impeccable wardrobe in “The Devil wears Prada”, to name a few.
When I was contacted by Farfetch to join the exclusive styling competition ‘Fashion’s Iconic Movie Moments’, I didn’t hesitate. The idea is basically creating a set or wish-list look based on the ‘iconic fashion movie moment’ of my choice. The blogger who features the best set, wins a Farfetch voucher worth £250/$350 and seven iconic movies.
So, I wanted to test my styling skills by creating a set based on the film ‘Clueless’. I’m a 90’s kid and I’m still obsessed with that decade, so this movie was a no-brainer. Preppy style at its finest, Cher Horowitz’s obsession with plaid skirts and socks are still influencing the trends 20 years later. I can imagine 2015 Cher browsing farfetch.com and picking her favorite items from the 300 boutiques they work with.
THE ITEMS I PICKED
To recreate ‘Clueless’ homage to perfectly matched preppy ensembles, I picked this gorgeous Dolce & Gabbana tartan check wrap skirt, which I personally fell in love with, to be the center piece of the outfit.
Cher is not afraid to play with patterns. As we all now, mixing two different patterns is the best way to modernize an outfit, so I bet our dear Cher wouldn’t hesitate in mixing the Dolce & Gabbana skirt with a Lanvin checked blazer which doesn’t compete with the skirt.
What is preppy style without a shirt? I found this perfect white Comme Des Garçons Play shirt with a cute embroidered heart detail.
These Nº21 pumps resemble to the beloved Mary Janes Cher constantly wears. The sequined heel makes these shoes the perfect statement shoe for any fashionista.
White socks are THE item to define any outfit as “preppy”, and these Meadham Kirchhoff patterned knee-high socks are exactly what I was looking for.
Cher is seen during almost the entire movie wearing whether headbands or a beret hat. When I saw this Ca4la grey beret with that lovely bow detail, my inner Cher immediately loved it!
To finish the look, I HAD to find a cool but chic backpack, ‘cause from all kinds of bags out there, backpacks are the insignia of school outfits. Cher’s fine eye for fashion would’ve loved this Moschino quilted backpack with golden details… I mean, who doesn’t?!
THE FINAL RESULT…
Hope you liked it!
